San Francisco Lifestyle Newborn Photographer - Laura Pope Photography

I get a lot of questions about what a lifestyle newborn session is. It's a great question since most people aren't really familiar with the term "lifestyle." In short, it's a story telling session about your new family. Lifestyle sessions focus less on poses and more on the connection of the new baby and his environment and surroundings.

These sessions are taken in your home because it provides a level of intimacy to your images. We'll use different parts of your home so that I can capture these treasured moments of you loving and getting to know this precious gift.

You've decorated their nursery to perfection. Why not utilize that perfect space that was lovingly made just for them?

The little details that you adore so much

It's less about the perfect pose, and more about that real moment. This mommy and daddy called this pose "Touchdown Waaris" because it was his signature stretch:

When you book a session, I'll ask you to send me some photos of your home so that I know what I'm working with. I'll start brainstorming of ways to document your newborn session well before the big day.

If the baby is sleeping, we can get some yummy posed shots of you all together. I do bring some blankets and wraps to use. Most of my wraps are neutral colored or white which provides a clean and cohesive look. It's also fun to incorporate something special that you already have, like a blanket that you treasure...

If there are siblings, we'll get some of them together. Kiana is already adoring her big sister.

These sweet twins just needed to be cuddling together

As I'm sure you already know, newborns are anything but predictable. This is another great thing about lifestyle sessions. There is no pressure to get the baby to settle down down into an unnatural pose. If she's wide eyed and looking around, we'll get those big beautiful eyes taking in her surroundings. If she's crying, you'll comfort her. It's your story.

Willow Glen Child Photographer - Baby Nathan is 3 months old!

I got to know the Ringquist family in April when Jenny & Pete had their maternity photos done with me. Then I got to meet Nathan at just a few days old for his newborn session! I've loved watching him grow and boy did he when I saw him for his 3 month old session!  He is so smiley and one of the happiest babies I've ever had the pleasure of photographing.

It was so much fun to get some pictures of him in his home doing what he loves eating, sleeping, smiling and adoring his mommy! It was also so great to catch up with Jenny and talk about mommy things. I love my job and the people I photograph so much! :)

Tova & James - Laura Pope Photography Los Altos Maternity Photographer

Oh I am so behind at blogging! This is the beginning of my busy season and I'm trying to catch up with my poor, neglected blog!

This was such a special session to me. Tova and I are actually friends from high school. Considering we both went to high school in Los Angeles, it's extra special to meet up since we are both living in Northern California now! And what better way to meet up than over maternity photos in a gorgeous location in Los Altos!

I'm so lucky (ok, and maybe jealous!) that all of my maternity clients have that glow about them! Look at this gorgeous girl! She's no exception-- she looks angelic!

Steely Nash & Shane - A Love Story - Los Altos Engagement Photographer

I'm just going to warn you now that this may be one of my most picture heavy blog posts in history. Fair warning!!

I met Steely back in our college days in an algebra class. I'm pretty sure we bonded over quadratic equations, or maybe it was the lack of understanding them. Either way, we became friends, and I will never forget her singing "Single Ladies" and me just being completely taken back. (Does that date me? Yeah, probably.) I'm 100% sure I told her that she was going to be famous for her voice, and I meant every word!

We eventually lost touch, but remained friends on Facebook where I've kind of stalked her musical journey and admired her from a distance. This girl has some talent, you guys!! She performs all over the Bay Area. Trust me when I say, go to an event. Her voice will move you.

Anyway... I was so excited to catch up with her and her husband over some special photos. We had such a great time in one of the most beautiful locations. As you can see from the pictures, these two are just meant to be together. There is a spark between them that is so apparent in real life and in the photos. I asked them to really connect with each other in front of the camera. I can imagine how hard it would be to act like I wasn't there, but these two just made it look so easy.

This was truly one of my most favorite sessions to date as they gave me so much creative liberty. Thank you for being so awesome Steely & Shane! I can't wait to see you both again!
