Welcome to the World, Liberty - San Jose Baby Photographer

Oh my goodness. Liberty is 9 pounds of perfection. PERFECTION! I really can't emphasize this enough. Everything from her gorgeous full cheeks to the swirl on her hair line. I really wish that I could have taken her home with me! This sweet peep didn't want to fall asleep until the very end of the session. Her big sister, Temple just adored her and also wanted to snuggle her as much as I did!

Thank you for such a wonderful session,  Grace, Temple, & baby Liberty!!

San Jose Newborn Photographer - Welcome to the World, Nathan!

I met Pete & Jenny in April when we did their maternity session in South San Jose. Jenny was beaming with that pregnancy glow that every pregnant woman longs for. You can see it for your self here
I was so excited when they asked me to take newborn photos once their new bundle arrived. We picked a date and everything was set. A few weeks later, Jenny emailed me and said they were on their way to the hospital! The next day, their gorgeous boy was born. Early, but perfect and healthy in every way.
Nathan was not only handsome and sweet, but he was truly the strongest newborn I had ever photographed. It's incredible that he was born early and still had all of that strength. It's not all that surprising since his daddy used to throw discus. Could you imagine what kind of strength Nathan would have had if he was born on his due date?! I spent so much time trying to get him to straighten his little fingers out, and he would just grip my hand or clench his fist tighter than any other newborn I had ever seen! Pete, you must be so proud!!

Congratulations, Pete & Jenny! You have one spectacular boy!!

Baby Kiana - San Jose Newborn Photographer

I wish you could really understand just how sweet baby Kiana is. I just wanted to put her in my pocket and take her home with me, but she was so adored by her family, so I didn't. ;)

But really, can we talk about those toes for a second?? Ahh, she is just perfect!

Thank you so much for welcoming me into your home, Sargon, Sherbi, Atalia & Kiana. I hope to see you all in the future!

Baby Rayanne - Newborn Portraits

Meet baby Rayanne. She is a 6 pound slice of heaven, I tell you! Can we just talk about how perfect that little swirl of hair right on top? It slays me! Oh Rayanne, I know you won't stay 8 days old forever, but I wouldn't mind if you did!

Thank you for inviting me into your home, Ray, Julianne, Rayleigh & Rayanne!

San Jose Newborn Photography - Baby Amber

I got to meet Amber when she was just 9 days old! So tiny, and so perfect. She was cozy and sleepy the whole time, and even flashed a smile while she was having some sweet baby dreams.

Amber shares her birthday with her big sister, Emerald. These two are bound to have an extra special sister bond!

Congratulations, Cockerham Family!

Laura Pope Photography - Newborn Session - Behind the Scenes

Several people have asked me what typically goes in to a newborn session and since newborn sessions are my absolute favorite right now, I figured that I'd elaborate in a blog entry!

Newborn photography is so incredibly sweet and tender. When the session is done within the first 10 days of life, the baby is usually super sleepy and cozy which makes for some amazing photos! My newborn studio is portable, and I can take it anywhere. I love going to my clients house because they have everything they need there for baby. It's usually less stressful for mom and baby when I come directly to you. Here is a pullback of my "studio" at my latest newborn session. Forgive the picture quality. It's a cellphone picture, which reminds me that I serioulsy need to take some pullback pictures with my real camera next time. ;)

Basically, I bring loads of soft blankets, pillows, the backdrop, a few props, and my photo gear. Then, I'll set up by a window (preferably a large sliding glass door, like the one pictured here) and we'll start the session! (If you don't have light like this in your home, then you can come to my home!)

I allow as much time as needed to get situated so there is no rush to start right away, or to finish up quickly. If the baby needs to be rocked, cuddled, fed, held, swaddled, etc... we'll do it! We will follow the baby's cues and just go with the flow. There's plenty of time, and nothing needs to be rushed.

In this photo, mom was soothing baby Adriana back to sleep. When they are that tiny, they are pretty easy to get back to sleep.

Sometimes, they prefer to be snuggled. I usually take advantage of this time by snapping a few pictures of mom holding the baby.

If they aren't sleepy, then we'll just get some shots of them awake! It's amazing to see them awake and looking around when they are so little.

After we are done with the session, then the editing starts! There is a lot of editing that goes into newborn photography. Brand new babies have little skin flakes all over their hands and feet, and sometimes acne on their face. This is the reason why it takes almost double the amount of time to edit newborns. Each photo has to be individually edited. Here is a before and after so you can see what type of editing goes into each and every photo.

The photo on the left is straight out of the camera. You can see that she has a few blemishes on her skin and some flakes on her hands. All of that is removed in post processing along with some other enhancements!

Anyway, there you have it! Newborn photography, behind the scenes!

Welcome to the World, Baby Adriana - A Newborn Session

At the end of last month, I had the honor of doing an impromptu newborn session with Kelly, Bogdan, and their brand new baby girl, Adriana. It must have just been meant to be, as I received the email from Kelly two days before I was heading to the East Coast for a family vacation. We both had the next day open, and there you have it. A newborn session, planned and accomplished all within just hours! I love when things just fall into place like that!

Anyway, I have to say that newborns hold a really special place in my heart. I absolutely adore newborn photography. There is something so magical about seeing a brand new little life right in front of me. As you can tell from the pictures, Adriana was a dream come true. She was so easy going; sleeping for most of the time and waking up for a bit at the end to look around and observe her surroundings. She was 10 days old, and look at how awake and alert she was in the last picture while making eye contact with her mommy!

Kelly & Bogdan, thank you so much for inviting me in your home to meet your family!
